mat Concept                      

The idea for Twisted Guru’s Beach Yoga Mats came from my personal experience teaching beach yoga on the East Coast. Every summer, people would ask me “what type of mat do you use for a beach class?” And…before Twisted Guru I didn’t have a good answer.


I’d offer suggestions and mostly, tell people what NOT to use on the sand. Studio mats, beach towels and even bed sheets make it hard to achieve a peaceful and sand-free practice. So finally, after watching people spend more time fussing with their inadequate mat choice, than flowing on it…it occurred to me the answer was simple…you use a BEACH YOGA MAT for beach yoga classes.


I researched beach yoga mats and came up empty, so I started experimenting with different designs and materials. Within a year, Twisted Guru evolved from sewing individual mats at my dining room table, to working directly with an Indian textile manufacturer and producing them on a much larger scale.
